The Alpine National Park is Victoria’s largest national park, with ten of the state’s eleven highest mountains, rare fauna and a rich botanical community.
Parks Victoria and Alpine National Park commissioned Interpretive by Design to design and manage concept to completion, an Interpretive Room in the Alpine Visitor Information Centre, Bright. Thousands of visitors flow through the Information Centre doors annually, providing an opportunity to captivate visitors with an invitation to walk the Alps.
Challenges of design included guiding visitors to the Interpretive Room from the Information Centre entrance, and engaging visitors of all ages. Vinyl wombat paw prints that lead from the front door to the Interpretive Room, an interactive soundscape and sculpture meet these challenges. Large images digitally printed to aluminium, laser cut to shape and spaced in layers create an atmosphere to “take you there”.
